Sloan's school starts the first day of each school year with a convocation that is filled with praise, worship and prayer. It really sets the right tone to start the year on a hopeful and prayerful note. Then it's off to class. Sloan has a new teacher this year: Mrs. Lee. She is a lovely and loving woman. He likes her already. :) She got the first graders right to work. They all sat at their desks and had to write the beginning phrase of their first week's Bible verse: "In the beginning God. . . ". Then she had them review writing their numbers. Not one child made a peep but our Mr. Sloan. You could audibly hear him, "One, two, three. . . " I have prepared Mrs. Lee for our buddy Sloan. We had about a one hour meeting last week. When I saw her coming out of the class at the end of the day holding Sloan's hand, I realized the meeting may have not been preparation enough. ;) Needless to say, Mrs. Lee is in our prayers. :) I was impressed with her words in a letter she sent home at the end of the day: "I look forward to a great year as we partner together to educate and raise children who will love and serve the Lord Jesus!" Amen, Mrs. Lee!
Dear Sloan, I pray that you have a first grade year full of learning, fun and growth. I pray the Lord will use your joy and strengths to bless the others in your class. I pray that you will learn to love Mrs. Lee and she will leave an indelible mark on your life. Most of all, I pray you learn to love Jesus and become the little boy he designed you to be!
Love,
Mom

I took Joshua to school for his first year in public school (fourth grade). It was the same feeling of anticipation and excitement. It is a great assurance knowing God is with our kids always and is shaping their lives through these experiences. My days have been full of prayer!
What a special day! Sloan looks so handsome- best wishes for a great
1st grade year!
