On June 17, 2003 a bright-eyed Russian boy left behind the only home he had ever known in a Siberian orphanage and was united with a mother and father who somehow, inexplicably love him even more today than on the day we met him. Last week, we celebrated our sixth year as a forever family and the adoption of our precious son.
In Sloan's honor, we had beef stroganoff (admittedly the only Russian dinner that I know to prepare), and set the dining room table in all of our finest, complete with Russian decorations. I first made beef stroganoff a few weeks ago for Sloan and at first he wasn't too sure he would like it. After some persuasion, he tried it then proceeded to clear his plate and ask for seconds. Half way through the meal, he proclaimed, "Ummm, this Russian food is good." :)
I end this post with a quote from one of the first books that I ever bought for Sloan called, "Happy Adoption Day" by John McCutcheon:
Oh, who would have guessed, who could have seen
Who could have possibly known
All these roads we have traveled, the places we've been
Would have finally taken us home
Chorus:
So here's to you, and three cheers to you
Let's shout it, "Hip, hip, hip, hooray!"
For, out of a world so tattered and torn,
You came to our house on that wonderful morn
And all of a sudden this family was born
Oh, Happy Adoption Day!
There are those who think families happen by chance
A mystery their whole life through
But we had a voice and we had a choice
We were working and waiting for you
Chorus
So no matter the name, no matter the age
No matter how you came to be
And no matter the skin, we are all of us kin
We are all of us one family
Chorus

Sloan is such a handsome boy. I love the Russian trinkets you had setting around the dinner table. I am not a big fan of beef stroganoff, but I will admit that yours looked pretty yummy.
Thanks for sharing,
Mandi

Time flies! What wonderful memories. I didn't know stroganoff was Russian food. It's one of my favorite meals too.
Here's to Sloan,
"Hip, hip, hooray!"
What a wonderful tradition! The stroganoff looks delicious and I'm going to hop over to amazon to look up the Happy Adoption Day Book.
