Strong Man of God

The other day as Chad was saying goodbye to Sloan to leave for work, the sweetest conversation took place. Chad and Sloan were talking about how when Sloan becomes an adult, he too will go to work. Then Sloan told him, "My teacher says that I'm going to grow up into a strong man of God." This caused me to stop and immediately thank God for his Christian education. The seeds ARE being planted. He IS listening. He IS learning. I told his teacher this and we both got tears in our eyes. She said that this is what makes teaching all worth it. We love you Mrs. Witters!

~ Sloan had a big week at school. Friday was Dad's Day and Chad went to school with him all day. It was a very special time for the both of them. Chad texted while he was there and wrote, "This is just what I needed!" Also, this week, Sloan had his turn as "Smile Bringer". Mrs. Witters makes a crown for each child and they have their day when the children shout out what makes that particular child bring a smile to their face as Mrs. Witters writes the comments on their crown. Some of Sloan's comments from his classmates, that I found particularly endearing, were: "He is sooo cheerful"; "Me and Sloan are best buddies"; "He plays with everybody"; "He's a great hugger" and "He is growing in Jesus." The children just thrive from this affirmation. He thought that crown was made of gold and didn't even want to take it off so I could read the comments. It just goes to show how powerful our words are; either for good or for bad. It was a good reminder how I need to praise and affirm my children every day!

~ On a funny side note. Today as the kids were playing outside, Sloan deliberately threw his and Kensie's balls into the pool. As part dare/reprimand, Chad told Sloan he had to go in after them. In classic Sloan style, he ran into the house, changed into his swimsuit, and did a cannon-ball into the pool. Although it was a nice sunny day, the temperature was only in the low sixties. I can't even begin to imagine how cold that water felt. It is afterall, still winter. He didn't last too long and he was begging for a towel. That's our Sloanie.

Hope you are all having a great weekend!

Amen for Christ centered education!!! My hope is that this choice won't be taken from families in the future. I saw today where the Gov't could actually imprison parents that keep their children home from school if they wish to opt their child out of a Homosexual tolerance class. The season is changing for those that hold Christian values close to their hearts. IMO we must stand even stronger! Thanks for posting this sweet post!

Hi Tish,
I was just stopping by to say "hello" because I hadn't heard from you for a few days and I see that I missed this post. What a great post about your special guy. And what a great idea about the crown for a day!

Word really do have an effect on us...positive and negative. That is really awesome that Sloan has a teacher that can build him up spiritually too. I love the picture of Dad and Sloan with matching jackets! Boys want so much to be like their Dads and to be loved by them. It's great that Chad could spend a whole day just for Sloan...that's bonding time!

What a special blessing it is to know that our children's hearts are being taught just as much as their minds. While I like good grades, I like spiritual growth MUCH more! Sounds like you have some special teachers( I know your kids have special parents :-)
